There are many causes of the oppression of women.
It is only by understanding these causes that the oppression
can effectively be fought and overcome.
That is why education is so crucial.

People often appeal to religious reasons to defend beliefs and practices that discriminate against women.

Research has shown that such prejudice is usually cultural in origin, and that religion is then wrongly invoked to legitimise the prejudice.

We have to break the cycle of prejudice that underlies the discrimination.

Knowledge liberates. The truth makes us free. The truth can break various chinks in the vicious circle that perpetuates prejudice and discrimination. Knowledge will pave the way for the world-wide social reforms sponsored by the United Nations.

The last century has seen steady improvements in women’s position in society. We can build on such improvements.

But much remains to be done.
